Obituary

CATHREEN "JOY" BERNDT COPE-STALFORD LONG TIME RESIDENT OF HOLLY, COLORADO PASSED AWAY OF NATURAL CAUSES ON JULY 6, 2020 AT ST. JAMES HOUSE IN BAYTOWN, TEXAS WITH HER FAMILY BY HER SIDE. SHE WAS BORN MARCH 18, 1927 ON THE FAMILY HOMESTEAD NORTH OF COOLIDGE, KANSAS IN HAMILTON COUNTY.  HER PARENTS WERE FREDERICK & FLORENCE HERREN BERNDT.

JOY AND WILLIAM "BILL" COPE WERE MARRIED ON NOVEMBER 17, 1945 AFTER HIS HONORABLE DISCHARGE FROM THE ARMY.  BILL PASSED AWAY ON FEBRUARY 7, 1976.

SURVIVING CHILDREN ARE WAYNE (KARON) COPE AND CHERYL (DARRYL) HARWIG, 4 GRANDCHILDREN AND 8 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.

JOY  AND CALVIN STALFORD WERE MARRIED ON SEPTEMBER 2, 1979 AND CALVIN PASSED AWAY ON DECEMBER 2, 2014.

SURVIVING STEPCHILDREN ARE ELMER (JACQUE) STALFORD, TOM (KAYLINN) STALFORD, SAM (DEBBIE) STALFORD, DOROTHY (RICK) STALFORD PEARCEY-GALPHIN, 12 GRANDCHILDREN, 16 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN AND 1 GREAT-GREAT GRANDCHILD.

JOY WAS PRECEEDED IN DEATH BY HER SIBLINGS, GEORGE BERNDT, FREDERICK (ARLENE) BERNDT, GARILDEEN "ROY" BERNDT, OSCAR (ROZELLA) BERNDT, IRENE (WILBERT) BEAMAN, ESTHER (JACOB) TROUT, EDITH BERNDT.

JOY LOVED THE LORD AND HER FAMILY AND WAS ALWAYS READY TO HELP OUT IN ANY WAY SHE COULD.  SHE WAS HAPPIEST WHEN WORKING OUTDOORS CARING FOR THE LIVESTOCK ON THE FARM OR DRIVING THE TRACTOR.  AFTER SHE AND BILL RETIRED FROM THE FARM AND MOVED TO THEIR HOME IN HOLLY, SHE SPENT HOURS TAKING CARE OF THE YARD ON HER RIDING LAWN MOWER.

AFTER CALVIN'S DEATH AND IT WAS TOO MUCH FOR HER TO STAY ALONE AT HER HOME IN HOLLY, SHE MOVED TO CROSBY, TEXAS WITH WAYNE AND KARON AND THEN TO ST. JAMES HOUSE IN BAYTOWN, TX JUST A FEW MILES AWAY.

JOY ALWAYS THOUGHT THE BEST OF EVERYONE AND TREATED THEM AS SUCH.  SHE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED.

SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT A LATER DATE.
