Barbara Ann Rice was born on December 2, 1937 in Bridgeton, New Jersey. She was the only child of the union of Gertrude Elizabeth Farnham and Arthur Stanley Brooks. Her mother later married a wonderful man named John David Phillips. This union provided three beautiful siblings in Barbara’s life, Carolyn, Paul, and Mary Christine.
Throughout her life Barbara was a rural homemaker; operated a dog kennel; co-owned a cleaning business; managed a motel; a local school bus driver; an Eligibility Tech for BCDSS; and a ward clerk at University of Utah Hospital. Her favorite and most cherished role was that of Mother, Grandmother, and “Nana”.
She was a woman of faith in Jehovah God; a great listener; she was inspired by and had appreciation for children’s innocence; an animal lover and rescuer; an avid reader; a self-taught artist; loved sewing and crocheting; a tentative traveler; and did her best to look for something positive in all those she crossed paths with.
Barbara is survived by her five children; Cindy (Steve) Bourne, Las Animas, Colorado; William (Kim) Cleveland, Las Animas, Colorado; Eric (Audrey) Cleveland, Seattle, Washington; Dawn (Troy) Harris, Highland, Utah; and Scott (Heather) Cleveland, Cloverdale, California. She has a legacy of seventeen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; her loving siblings, Paul Phillips and family, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mary Christine Phillips and family, Seattle, Washington; as well as many dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Betty Phillips; father, Arthur Brooks; sister, Carolyn Harestad; and step-dad, Dave Phillips.
